There has been a few on court melt downs this year, Marcos Baghdatis managed to break not one, two or three but FOUR RACKETS!This action has cost him a $1,250 fine.

Another moment of anger played out during this years Australian Open cost that player $8,000 in fines for unsportsmanlike conduct, David Nalbandian is the player I am speaking off. In a five-set match against Isner in his second round match, Isner was facing a break point when chair umpire Kader Nouni overruled a fault call on Isner’s first serve and would not let Nalbandian challenge the call, saying that Nalbandian had not been quick enough. Nalbandian protested the ruling to Nouni and supervisor Andreas Egli, but the call was not overturned.

Nalbandian said afterwards  “I mean, it’s ridiculous playing this kind of tournament with this kind of umpires. What is this? What did the A.T.P. do for this? I didn’t understand in that situation, eight-all break point. I mean, [how] can you be that stupid to do that in that moment?”

Federer was asked for his opinion and he said “You wish that you talk about how great they were serving and returning and playing instead of talking about this one stupid call. Unfortunately it might have changed the outcome of the match potentially. We all knew that this is exactly the type of point that needs to be challenged, either from John or from David or from the umpire. We need to see the call. It can’t be that there is no call. So it was just so unfortunate. I felt bad for David, but it was still a great match. I guess the players and the umpires need to get it right in terms of helping each other.”

The International Tennis Federation said that Nalbandian’s fine was for throwing water on an Australian Open staff member after the match. This fine is the largest of the tournament to date.

Isner was fined $800 for racket abuse.

A total of 19 fines have been issued so far, all to male players, oh dear!
