Now an interesting article from the Australian Open website, the top 10 Australian Open merchandise,

By Suzi Petkovski
Always a buzz to see the vivid new line of AO merchandise, like a burst of exotic butterflies. Give the debit card a workout with these top 10 merch items.

1. The AO towel. Even the champions have been known to, ahem, liberate these for friends. Full-size player towel, men’s and women’s designs ($55) or the smaller gym towel ($35), for the tennis bag.

2. Love the ‘Love’ T-shirt for girls ($30). Tennis wear, beach wear, everywhere-wear.

3. Collectible coins to mark the 100th men’s Australian championship. The $1 coins are $15; the $5 coin is $25 and the gold-plated $2 coin (keep it away from your coffee money) is $95.

4. Australian Open program ($20). For fans of Super Novak, worth the cover price just for the great locker-room shot of Novak celebrating with his team last year. For this 100th championship, the program is packed with player profiles of the top 100 men and women. (Disclosure: this writer’s byline is on the men’s profiles.)

5. Cheap and cheerful alternative to the special-issue coins: men’s and women’s trophy pins for $5.

6. Paprika-red women’s event T-shirt, with electric-blue logo ($40). Worthy of Carrie Bradshaw. Manolos optional.

7. Umbrella ($20). This is Melbourne, after all. Four seasons in one day. And it’s bright blue, so less chance of leaving it on the tram.

8. Well, at least look like a champion. Pour yourself into Queen Serena’s royal-blue Nike dress ($120).

9. Big-ticket item: Roger Federer’s new Wilson weapon. Yours for $290.

10. Tennis is your bag, so pack it all into an AO tote for $3, or $5 for just the bag.
